About the Event

An international evening of words and works. Hosted by Foilco and sponsored by Fedrigoni.

The Drygate Brewery, Glasgow
28 April 2016

Creativity is as much about the possibilities as it is about the outcome. The possibilities are endless and this potential demonstrates why strategic creative thinking in graphic design is more relevant than ever.

Our guest speakers are renowned practitioners in the design of iconic visual identities for consumer brands and cultural institutions. We will hear of how they strive to deliver not only world-class strategic design, but also world-class project management for clients the world over. We examine their work and learn of their unique collaborative working process, during which strategy and design become clearer, simpler and richer in meaning.

This event is for those who creatively push the boundaries, and equally for those who are focused on learning about creativity, and what it is that inspires the compelling work they see before them.

Adrian Carroll

A founding partner, Adrian is the Creative Director of D8. With over 20 years’ professional experience, Adrian delivers brand strategy, identity, communications and packaging for clients such as ScottishPower, the BBC, Beam Suntory and Tennent Caledonian Breweries.

It’s easy to explain what D8 do. We create and tell interesting stories in engaging ways that help businesses achieve their goals. How do we do this? We get to the heart of brands and make them communicate effectively.

We are a team of specialists with diverse skills and experience of working across multiple sectors at the highest level for a range of UK and international brands. We are planners, strategists, designers, developers, project managers, animators, writers and illustrators. Collectively, we tell compelling stories and create rich experiences. In 1999 there were three of us, now we are 48. We understand what works.

Tony Dunworth

Tony Dunworth took a protracted route to his current role as director of Graphical House. Five years of architecture schooling, a year of practice in Bolivia, and six months working with archaeologists in the West Bank persuaded him his future definitely lay in graphic design.

11 years of running his own studio was sufficient time to make numerous mistakes and to learn from them, and in 2010 Tony merged his business with his erstwhile partners, and at the same time Graphical House eliminated some of the competition. Since then, the combined studio has worked with clients all over the world, from California to Vietnam.

With established brands like Paul Smith, Channel 4 and the BBC, as well as collaborating with numerous designers, artists, makers, and SMEs. Tony says “Graphical House is a community of ideas” in tribute to the network of creative talent they work with, and this is reinforced by their open door shop front studio that embraces its surroundings at the heart of Glasgow’s creative quarter.
